ISTEE Executive Board

The Executive Board (EB) is responsible for guiding the Society’s mission, overseeing its activities, and organizing the biennial ISTEE Conference. The EB is composed of a diverse group of leaders who represent the global nature of the Society and its commitment to equity and inclusion.

Composition of the ISTEE Executive board
  1. President
  2. Vice-President/President-Elect
  3. Past President
  4. Secretary
  5. Treasurer
  6. Members-at-Large (4 total)
  7. Chairperson of the Subsequent Incoming Conference
  8. Chairperson of the Next Immediate Conference
  9. Chairperson of the Past Conference

To reflect ISTEE’s international scope, the EB is structured to include representation from the Americas, Asia, Europe, and other global regions. This ensures a broad and inclusive perspective in decision-making and leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities

The primary role of the EB is to conduct the affairs of the Society, with a major focus on planning and leading the ISTEE Conference. This includes nominating future conference locations, appointing conference chairpersons, and maintaining close collaboration with conference organizers.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the EB, individuals must be active ISTEE members in good standing and engaged in trace element biogeochemistry or related disciplines. Preference is given to those with prior ISTEE or similar society experience. Additionally, the Vice-President/President-Elect must be from a different geographic region than the incoming President to maintain international balance.

International Committee

The International Committee ("IC") is involved in setting both the policies and structure for the next immediate ISTEE conference. It is also involved in the review process of abstracts for the conference.

Local Organizing Committee

The Local Organizing Committee ("LOC") is appointed by the Chairperson of the forthcoming ISTEE Conference. It is involved in conference logistics and works with the President and Chairperson of the Next Immediate Conference.

Nominating committee

The four Members-at-Large will form the Nominating Committee, which is in charge of finding candidates for open positions in the ISTEE Executive Board. They solicit nominations for all open positions, looking towards past conference organizers, symposia/session chairs, and others committed to the ISTEE as candidates for open positions. For each open position, they select two potential candidates, ensuring that one candidate runs for only one open position. During elections, the ISTEE members choose between the nominated candidates.

Auditing committee

The Auditing Committee audits the biennial budgets (i.e., funds received and disbursed) and required fiscal reports presented by the Treasurer and presents the results of the auditing process to the EB. It is composed of four (4) members elected by the ISTEE membership. Members serve a four year offset term: every two years, two new auditing committee members are nominated and elected.
